Several years ago I participated in a planning exercise with the Central Florida Regional Planning Council, Avon Park Air Force Range, Polk County, Osceola County, Highlands County and several local municipalities. The exercise was paid for by the Department of Defense and designed to protect (by buffer) the operations at the Avon Park Air Force Range.
Since then, I have been fortunate enough to be on the list of invitees when ceremonies and milestones take place at the range. I have been to two change of command ceremonies and now an activation ceremony. On September, 22, 2015 the US Air Force reactivated the 598th Bombardment Squadron (in-active since 1946) with it’s new name and mission as the 598th Range Squadron at Avon Park Air Force Range. Here are a few photos and a video of the ceremony. Thank you Commander, Lt. Col. Kevin R. Beeker and Moody Air Force Base for allowing me the honor to be a guest.
